Magical Encounters: Presented by Prof. Brian Rappert

October 11, 2021

Part conjuring show, part educational seminar, Magical Encounters uses magic and the social sciences to help re-image everyday life.

About this event

As an academic at the University of Exeter, Brian Rappert has been learning entertainment magic as a way of examining how embodied skills are acquired – see https://brianrappert.net/magic.

“Magical Encounters” offers a highly interactive session that makes use of entertainment magic to explore themes about how we live together. In this Zoom-based session, we will use the play of secrecy, disclosure and deception in magic to discuss the role of secrecy, disclosure and deception in science, war, and everyday life.

Offered as part of the ESRC Festival of Social Science, Brian Rappert plans to record this session with the view to possibly editing the recording into smaller highlight segments. Details of the recordings and their dissemination will be confirmed closer to the event. To read more details and to register, see Eventbrite
